PREEMIE FACTOIDS

Did you know that over 450,000 babies are born premature in the United States every year? And 15,000,000 worldwide. Because of their early arrivals preemies are more susceptible to a myriad health issues including apnea, PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosis ) and RDS (Respiratory Distress Syndrome ). But technology and science continue to evolve. In fact, a preemie born today has a much greater chance at survival compared to only 10 years ago.  Keep checking back for more factoids.

2015 CAMPAIGNS, INITIATIVES AND GOALS

  • EVERY BABY RIDES!:
Every baby leaving the NICU should be in the best possible car seat - a pricey challenge for most families. The goal of our Every Baby Rides! campaign is to make sure those families with the greatest need are able to have the best for their baby on the day that they leave the hospital.  For 2015 our goal is to provide support for 100 families. With your help, we can make this happen.
  • NICU SURVIVAL KIT:
One of the most immediate impacts we can have for those parent(s) that find themselves unexpectedly in the NICU. The survival kit comes with basic toiletries, essentials and other items to help make those first few hours a little more bearable. Most of the donations we receive go toward putting these kits together and making sure they get into the hands of new NICU parents in need.
  • PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT:
Support during these trying times is critical - Not only for your health but also the health of your baby. New parents might not know who to turn to for basic questions and concerns. Little Bear tries to link every NICU family with a NICU graduate. So if you are a new parent of a preemie and are looking for support please Contact Us and so that we can connect you with another preemie parent in your area.  They may have walked in your shoes. Minimally, they can offer a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on and a new friend to help celebrate the good days.  Likewise, if you experienced or survived the NICU experience yourself you can help us! Use the contact form and let us know you'd like to volunteer to provide peer support.  We are only as strong as our network. With a strong network we can get closer to our goal of making sure that anyone that needs help has full access to it.

  • 360º WRAPAROUND SUPPORT: Support doesn't stop when you leave the NICU. Some parents finds themselves returning after bringing baby home. 360º WRAPAROUND SUPPORT tries to close that gap until our babies are no longer at risk of returning to the NICU.  Having a new baby at home is challenging enough under the best of circumstances. NICU graduates present their own special circumstances. 360º WRAPAROUND SUPPORT is there for those families as well.
